Dragonslayer Armour isn't a particularly difficult boss compared to some others in the game, but he does hit hard and has some unpleasant area of effect attacks. Especially in phase two, when the huge flying creatures (they’re called Pilgrim Butterflies) you see in the background join the fight and start hurling fire at you.

This was my personal first kill of the boss and as you can see in the video, I did make a few mistakes and had some very close calls during the fight.

With that said, there are some things you could do to maximize your chances of success, so let's go over some key points:

First, understanding the boss. The Dragon slayer Armour is relentless with its massive greataxe and shield, combining powerful melee strikes with area of effect attacks.

Second, preparation before the fight. The boss deals heavy lightning damage. Equip armor with good lightning resistance (like the Lothric Knight Set or Havel's Set if you're not fat-rolling). Use rings like the Ring of Favor or Chloranthy Ring to boost stamina and recovery speed. The boss is weak to dark and fire damage. Consider infusing your weapon or using buffs like Carthus Flame Arc.

Third, some strategy tips for phase one. Circling to your right (the boss's left) avoids many of its attacks, especially its overhead slams. For some reason I often get this wrong myself and tend to circle the other way. After big swings or shield bashes, the boss has a brief recovery window - get a couple of hits in and back off.

Fourth, in phase two, the butterflies start firing orbs and beams. Constant movement reduces the chances of being hit by both the boss and the projectiles. If possible, unleash heavy damage quickly to shorten this chaotic phase.

Additionally, and this is really a good tip for all bosses in the game, don't get greedy. I very often fall for this myself, but it's usually best to just get one or maybe two hits when there is an opportunity and then back off. Otherwise you'll often find yourself in the middle of a swing when the boss strikes back and that'll be the end of you. Easier said than done, I know, I often get too excited myself ;-)
